Our trip back in time this month takes us to four filming locations, covering the years 1931 and 1972! Here is a sneak peek at this month's pop culture landmarks we explore:

The Plot
Mike Brady has an assignment working on a new building going up in Honolulu, so he decides to take the entire family (and Alice too!) along.
The Historic Royal Hawaiian Resort As Filming Location
The filming location then and now photo above is from a scene where the Brady women are learning how to hula dance. This was filmed on the back lawn of the famous Royal Hawaiian Resort in Honolulu. As you can see, not much has changed since this episode filmed here in 1972.

The Plot
Greg has been practicing surfing and he brings the whole family down to the beach to watch him show off his skills.
Filming Location - The Brady Bunch At The Beach
Sans Souci State Recreational Park, just south of Owls Beach at 2749 Kalākaua Avenue, was the filming location for this scene from Hawaii Bound.
In the then and now filming location photo above, the Waikiki Beach skyline was already being built up when this episode of The Brady Bunch filmed here in 1972. As you can see in the modern view above, the skyline has filled in quite a bit since then.

Charley Chase - Hasty Marriage (1931)
The Plot
Charley Chase wants to someday marry his sweetheart Kitty (played by Gay Seabrook), but her mother disapproves of him because he doesn't have a job. A streetcar company offers him a job, but they only hire married men. So... Charley takes care of two things at once, marrying Kitty in a "hasty marriage" AND securing the job at the streetcar company!
Priceless Views Of A Long Lost Los Angeles Streetcar Line
A significant portion of this Charley Chase comedy short, Hasty Marriage, was shot on location along a specific stretch of 2nd Avenue, spanning West 48th Street down to West 54th Street in South Central Los Angeles. While the streetcar line and its hanging electric wires have since vanished, 2nd Avenue still retains an unusually broad street profile because those tracks originally cut straight through the median.
Shown in the then and now filming location photo above, the house on the left is 4819 2nd Avenue (constructed in 1914), while 4815 2nd Avenue — erected in 1922 — stands to its right.

The Plot
Charley wants to go on a picnic with Kitty, her mom and Charley's rival for Kitty's affections.
A Filming Location Time Capsule
Back when Charley Chase shot Hasty Marriage in 1931, public transit across Los Angeles was divided between two primary streetcar operators, each covering distinct routes:
- Pacific Electric Railway (famously called the "Red Cars")
- Los Angeles Railway (commonly known as the "Yellow Cars")
Looking north from the intersection of 2nd Avenue and West 54th Street in the then and now filming location comparison photo above, the unusually broad roadway might seem surprising at first glance. However, that extra width exists because the median once accommodated the Los Angeles Railway's trolley tracks.
