The famous comedy short of Laurel and Hardy selling Christmas trees door-to-door with disastrous results!

Two primary locations were used in the filming of this movie, one in Culver City and the other in the upscale Cheviot Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the house in Culver City has been recently torn down, as you'll see in this filming locations video.

Laurel and Hardy - County Hospital (1932) - Filming Locations

Visiting Mr. Hardy In The Hospital

Mr. Hardy is in the hospital recuperating from a leg injury. Mr. Laurel come by to visit and in short order ends up getting himself AND Mr. Hardy thrown out of the hospital.

In the movie's opening scene we see Mr. Laurel pulling up in front of the "County Hospital" - which in reality was the City Hall building in Culver City. The same building used two years later in their movie Going Bye-Bye! The second half of the movie involves Laurel and Hardy driving through the streets of Los Angeles. Amazingly, all of these locations have survived, as you'll see in the video.

A Quick Getaway Outside The Court House

After testifying at the court house against a ruthless criminal (Walter Long), Stan is upset that the judge isn't going to "hang him!" This irritates Mr. Long and he vows to break out of prison and exact vengeance on Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy.

This scene was filmed outside the City Hall building in Culver City, California. The same building that was used two years earlier as the hospital in Laurel and Hardy's movie County Hospital.

Stan Burns Down Ollie's House!

While his wife was away, Mr. Hardy threw a wild party, but he just found out his wife is due home early - as in TODAY. Mr. Laurel comes over to help clean up the place and Mr. Hardy leaves for the train station to pick up his wife. When Mr. Hardy returns, though, he finds his home a smoldering ruin, having been accidentally burned down by Mr. Laurel!

The famous scene at the end of the movie showing the burned down house is the focus of this video. Amazingly, BOTH of the real-world houses seen in the movie are still standing.

A Wild Ride Around The Los Angeles Area In 1930

Mr. Hardy is putting up a radio antenna on the roof. Mr. Laurel arrives and decides to "help" him. This results in Mr. Hardy being stuck on top of a ladder mounted to his car which Mr. Laurel inadvertently drives all over the area, narrowly avoiding bridges and other hazards.

This filming locations video gives us great views of Culver City, the Palms neighborhood and the campus of USC near downtown Los Angeles.

Laurel and Hardy sneak out on the wives for a fun night out on the town.

The fact that this filming location still exists is a miracle. The I-10 Santa Monica Freeway was built right across the street and took out the entire block of houses. If the freeway planners had decided on a route just 100 feet to the south, this early Laurel and Hardy filming location would have been lost forever.
