The Charlie's Angels 1979 episode Angels On The Street has the spotlight this month. Filmed almost entirely on location in the Los Angeles area, it's a great time capsule of Southern California in the late 1970s.

Charlie's Angels - Angels On The Street (1979)
The Plot
The prim and proper daughter of the owner of a small music school located in a rough neighborhood gets harassed by "Freddie" the local pimp (played menacingly by character actor Richard Lynch). Her father calls in the Angels for help and they pose as street prostitutes to get into Freddie's operation.
There's a twist in this episode: The prim and proper daughter has an alter-ego and she is also one of Freddie's prostitutes!
Downtown Culver City - Filming Location For Much Of The Action
By 1979, the Downtown Culver City area had become extremely rundown and thus was a perfect filming location for this episode. Several Culver City landmarks appeared in this episode, among them the Safeway Grocery store at 9412 Washington Blvd seen in the top filming locations photo above on the left, from the 1924 Our Gang / The Little Rascals silent film The Sun Down Limited.
When Angels On The Street was filmed, the store was occupied by Mark The Carpetbagger, and today this entire stretch of Main Street between Washington Blvd and Culver Blvd is a pedestrian mall.
The Historic Adams Hotel
The Adams Hotel on the corner of Main Street and Culver Blvd. This is the Culver Blvd side of the building. Seen in dozens of 1920s films covered on this website, plus a 1987 episode of the TV cop show Hunter, in 1979 the Adams Hotel appears as (and probably was!) a hub of prostitution and other illicit activities.
In the top filming location comparison photo above, the famous comedy team of Laurel and Hardy is seen in their 1928 comedy We Faw Down using this exact filming location that Charlie's Angels used in Angels On The Street.
The present-day filming location photo above shows the Culver Steps development and redeveloped streetscape.
Continuing To Follow Laurel And Hardy
The Culver Hotel shows up in the background of a few scenes of Angels On The Street. At just over 55 years old at the time this episode was filmed in 1979, it's looking every bit its age.
And once again, this episode paralleled Laurel and Hardy's choice of filming location in their film We Faw Down. I wonder if this episode's writer or director did this as a nod to Laurel and Hardy?!
