Introduction
This month we're featuring two comedy movies that share a common theme related to dogs: Mutts To You by The Three Stooges and Love My Dog from Our Gang / The Little Rascals.
A Glenn Tryon 1926 comedy short - 45 Minutes From Hollywood - takes us on location on a tour of Hollywood, and we then join Laurel and Hardy in Downtown Culver City, California for a then and now look at one of the filming locations from their 1928 movie We Faw Down.
The Three Stooges - Mutts To You (1938)
The Plot
The Stooges are running a dog grooming business. One day as they are making their neighborhood rounds, they discover a baby on a doorstep. They come to the (wrong) conclusion that the baby is abandoned and they rescue him and in the process become wanted for kidnapping.
The Three Stooges And The Recurring Theme Of Dogs In Their Movies
This comedy short once again features dogs as a main part of the plot. It's well known among fans of The Three Stooges that Curly was a dog lover, frequently picking up stray dogs he would come across while the Stooges were on the road and bringing them along for the rest of the tour! Did Curly's love for dogs influence the frequent incorporation of dogs in the plots of The Three Stooges movies?
The Three Stooges Directed By Charley Chase
Mutts To You was directed by Charley Chase, who was a excellent comedy writer, director and comic actor. Many of the Charley Chase comedies created in the 1920s and 1930s filmed on location and are featured here on the website:

Filming Location: The Windsor Square Neighborhood Of Los Angeles
Most of the on location filming took place on the 100 block of South Norton Avenue in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Windsor Square. Amazingly, each home that we see in Mutts To You is still around, including the home where the Stooges discover the "abandoned" baby: 111 South Norton Avenue built in 1915.

Our Gang / The Little Rascals - Love My Dog (1927)
The Plot
The local authorities have decreed that all dogs in the area must be vaccinated. Of course, the Gang's dogs aren't and Love My Dog shows us the ingenious ways the Gang disguises their dogs to fool the neighborhood dog catchers.
Filming Locations On The Westside Of Los Angeles
Love My Dog is a fast paced comedy featuring plenty of on location filming. The Palms neighborhood on the west side of Los Angeles was used as the filming location, with much of the action occurring within about 100 feet of the intersection of Woodbine Street and Motor Avenue.

The Plot
A young man who lives out in the country goes to Hollywood to take care of some family business and winds up getting involved with bank robbers!
Glenn Tryon - Harold Lloyd's Replacement?
By the mid 1920s, Harold Lloyd had left the Hal Roach Studios so that he could produce (and own) his movies. The studio tried to come up with "another" Harold Lloyd and hired actor Glenn Tryon as a replacement.
The Glenn Tryon comedy shorts for whatever reason didn't catch on with the public, though they're quite entertaining and, more importantly for all of us, filmed on location all over the Los Angeles area, providing us with a great time capsule of the mid-1920s.
A Filming Locations Tour Of The Los Angeles Area
There's quite a bit of on location filming in 45 Minutes From Hollywood, with some great views of Hollywood Blvd in the heart of tinsel town, plus Main Street in downtown Culver City. Almost all of the filming locations used in this movie are still standing and virtually unchanged today.

The Plot
Laurel and Hardy have once again sneaked out on their wives, this time to play poker with their friends. Along the way, they get involved with two women and things quickly go down hill with the boys eventually being discovered by their wives!
A Connection To Charlie's Angels
We Faw Down has Laurel and Hardy on location in downtown Culver City filming several key scenes for the film. The Adams Hotel which used to sit on the northeast corner of Main Street and Culver Blvd is prominently featured in this film, and was also featured 50 years later in the Charlie's Angels episode Angels On The Street which is covered on the website here:
