Introduction
Our filming locations tour kicks off with a visit to the Culver City, California filming locations from the classic 1927 Laurel and Hardy movie Putting Pants On Philip. This is one of the earliest Laurel and Hardy movies, and benefits greatly by it's use of on location filming.
The second stop takes us across the country to a small town in Northwest New Jersey where a scene from the final episode of the TV series The Sopranos was filmed back in 2007. Can you guess which scene it was?
Back in the Los Angeles area, Charlie Chaplin takes us to the beach in his 1915 comedy By The Sea and the Our Gang / The Little Rascals kids take us along for a ride on their homemade railroad.

Laurel and Hardy - Putting Pants on Philip (1927)
The Plot
An early Laurel and Hardy movie has the comedy duo NOT playing their usual characters. That would come a few months after this movie was made. Laurel (his character in this one is named Philip) arrives from Scotland to visit Hardy (his Uncle). Dressed in a kilt, Laurel draws unwanted attention from the townfolk as he and Mr. Hardy walk around town and Mr. Hardy vows to "put pants on Philip!"
A Time Capsule Of Culver City From 1927
Putting Pants on Philip was filmed almost completely on location, mostly on the streets of downtown Culver City, California. Not only is it a very funny film, but it also serves as a great time capsule of this part of Southern California as it was in the 1920s.
There's great views of the historic Culver Hotel and the shops on Main Street. Most surprisingly, ALL of those buildings are still standing today!

The Plot
Tony has finally had it with Phil and orders that Phil gets whacked, which is exactly what this scene shows!
A Small New Jersey Town As Filming Location
The shocking scene where Phil Leotardo gets shot and killed was filmed in the small town of Morris Plains, New Jersey at a gas station at the intersection of Routes 10 and 202. This filming location looks exactly the same today as it did in 2007 when this scene was filmed.
This presentation of The Sopranos filming location is special to me for two reasons: It was filmed about a mile from where I grew up and it features the wonderful actor Frank Vincent, who I got to spend a weekend with shortly after this episode aired.
Little known fact: Frank was an excellent jazz drummer and that was his true love – the acting roles were not his primary interest (though they sure did pay the bills!).

The Gang decide to build their own railroad, but their homemade train jumps the tracks and takes them through the busy streets of the neighborhood!
The Westside Of Los Angeles As Filming Location
For this Quick Preview Video, we focus in on the runaway train scene for some great views of the (then) very rural Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles. Plus, we get a look at 9412 Washington Blvd in downtown Culver City, California. This building is still standing today, over a century later!
