Mid-Century Culver City Filming Location This scene from CHiPs was filmed on Madison Avenue just off of Culver Blvd in Culver City. Just up the block, across Culver Blvd, sits the legendary Thalberg Administration building at the former MGM (now Sony) movie studio. That's 4016 Madison Avenue visible in the background, an apartment building that was built in 1960 and still standing today.

Production & Preservation Note: This 1977 sequence serves as an excellent structural time capsule of Culver City with traces of the 1920s evident in the remnants of the Pacific Electric Railway tracks seen running down Culver Blvd.

The Plot

Ponch and Jon locate a stolen bus. It's just another day for Jon, but Ponch is thrilled because he'll get the credit for finding it.

Where was the TV series CHiPs filmed? All over the Los Angeles area, but specifically, the episode Moving Violation filmed in downtown Culver City, California right across the street from the historic MGM Studios.

In this Quick Preview Video, we take a then and now tour of some of the filming locations used in this episode of this popular TV series.

On a historical note, we get to see the remnants of the old Pacific Electric railway tracks that used to run down Culver Blvd in Culver City, California. These tracks were an important transportation corridor dating back to the 1910s, running from downtown Los Angeles, through Culver City and to the beach communities of Playa del Rey, El Segundo and beyond.
