Introduction
This month we tour historic filming locations then and now around Los Angeles, visiting movie landmarks from Venice Beach on the Westside of LA to Lincoln Park just to the northeast of Downtown LA, along with several filming locations in between.

Robert Duvall and Sean Penn are Los Angeles police officers assigned to keep warring Gangs in line.
A Chase Scene Filmed In Venice Beach
As we begin this month's Los Angeles filming locations tour with this then and now Quick Preview video, we take a look at the real-life Venice Beach filming locations from the famous "High Top" chase scene.
This Quick Preview of the complete filming locations video gets started on the first block of Windward Avenue right at the beach and follows Robert Duvall past the few remaining original buildings built by the "Venice By The Sea" neighborhood's founder Abbot Kinney. These buildings date back to the very early 1900s.

The Plot
Farina has become very superstitious, avoiding walking under ladders and running away from black cats! He also believes that a medallion in his possession is capable of putting Voodoo spells on people!
The Filming Locations
Our Los Angeles filming locations then and now tour takes us to the 3300 and 3400 blocks of Motor Avenue in the Palms neighborhood next. In this Quick Preview video, we get a rare view of the original Palms branch of the Los Angeles Public Library in nearby Woodbine Park.
What's Changed?
While the park retains it's original footprint, there have been significant changes. Most notably, the branch of the L.A. Public library has been relocated and those palm trees fronting the park on Woodbine Street are long gone.

The Plot
We look at the first part of this comedy short where Charlie Chaplin causes mayhem in a park.
A Los Angeles Park As Filming Location
Charlie Chaplin's comedy short A Woman is one of the oldest movies on the website. For this part of our Los Angeles filming locations tour we journey to the historic Lincoln Park in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood just a few miles from Downtown Los Angeles.
Today, Lincoln Park appears to be a rare exception among Los Angeles parks and is actually clean and seemed quite safe to visit. And, miraculously, the park's landmark 1912 boathouse that's seen in the movie still stands today, over a century since Charlie Chaplin filmed here.

Laurel and Hardy - Bacon Grabbers (1929)
The Plot
By the time Bacon Grabbers was released in 1929, Hollywood was going "all-talking pictures" and this is one of the last of the Laurel and Hardy silent movies. The plot of this one revolves around the duo trying to repossess Edgar Kennedy's radio, due to Mr. Kennedy having missed his installment payments.
An Often Used Filming Location
This Quick Preview of the complete filming locations video begins with Laurel and Hardy on the way to the Kennedy house. The opening scene was filmed at the intersection of Venice Blvd and Bagley Avenue on the Westside of Los Angeles, just over the Culver City line. This part of Los Angeles is still very much as it was in 1929 with all of the buildings captured on film in 1929 still standing today.
The Birth Of A Residential Neighborhood As Filming Location
The majority of the on-location scenes in Bacon Grabbers were filmed on the 10300 block of Bannockburn Drive in the newly subdivided neighborhood of Cheviot Hills. There's more vacant lots than houses in the neighborhood at this point, and we get a rare and historic view of the neighborhood as it was, prior to being fully developed, with plenty of wide open spaces.
