Introduction
This month we're featuring the filming location for the controversial (for 1986) music video Open Your Heart from Madonna which used a neighborhood just north of Downtown Los Angeles as a filming location.
Also on this month's filming locations tour, a 1931 Our Gang / The Little Rascals movie that's one of the best in the series, Fly My Kite. There have been some recent, stunning changes to that movie's filming locations.
Then, we head over to London, England to present a few of the filming locations used in the classic 1955 British comedy movie The Ladykillers starring Alec Guinness.
And lastly, we're back in the Los Angeles are for The Three Stooges movie False Alarms filming locations video shows us that at least SOME places in Los Angeles haven't changed all that much since the 1930s.
Madonna - Open Your Heart (1986)
The Plot
Madonna is a dancer at an adult theater. One day, she runs away with a teenage boy to start a new life.
This music video received heavy play on MTV and the song reached #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart in the USA on February 7, 1987.
Filming Location - Crown Hill In Los Angeles
Like many of Madonna's early music videos, this was filmed in the Downtown Los Angeles area.
Open Your Heart used filming locations in the Crown Hill neighborhood, a place that was home to the first oil wells drilled in Los Angeles. A remnant of those days remains visible in the music video: there's a still functioning oil well visible next to the sidewalk on the vacant lot where the adult theater set was built!

The Plot
One of the most enjoyable of the Our Gang / The Little Rascals movie series, this movie has everything: Laughs, action and a storyline that pits the Gang and Grandma against her mean son-in-law.
Filming Location Time Capsule
The Westside of Los Angeles was still full of wide open spaces when Fly My Kite filmed the scenes across the street from Grandma's house - a big contrast compared to today where every inch of land has been built up.
Keep a sharp eye out for the gas station scene - gas was selling for 9.90 cents per gallon in 1931!

The Ladykillers (1955)
The Plot
A charming British "black comedy" film starring Alec Guinness, Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers and Katie Johnson as Mrs. Wilberforce. The plot involves a gang of criminals (led by Alec Guinness) robbing a bank and using kindly little old lady Mrs. Wilberforce to (unwittingly) transport the stolen money back to her house, where the gang has rented a spare bedroom (they have told Mrs. W. that they are a string quartet looking for a rehearsal room).
There's a lot more to the plot, but you'll have to watch this great movie to see!
A Filming Location Untouched By Time
In this filming locations video, we visit several of the movie locations around London used in the film. Not surprisingly (it's London after all), many of these locations are easily recognizable today, including Argyle Street near St. Pancras railway station and even the platform area inside King's Cross railway station.

The Three Stooges - False Alarms (1936)
The Plot
The Three Stooges are employed as fire fighters (how ever did they pass the exam?!).
The Era Of Los Angeles Streetcars
This quick preview of the complete then and now filming locations video shows the "fire hose" scene. This particular movie location is very much unchanged after all these decades, though the Los Angeles Railway streetcar tracks in the middle of the street are long gone.
The filming location is the end of North Larchmont Blvd where it meets Melrose Avenue.
