Introduction
2026 is here and I've got four comedy short movies filmed around Los Angeles and a look at filming locations in Honolulu from a classic TV episode from 1968.
We start off with the episode Battle of Waikiki from the classic television show I Dream of Jeannie, filmed in 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the historic Iolani Palace. This is our second look at the filming locations then and now used in this episode of the series.
Next, it's a Laurel and Hardy movie from 1927 - one of their earliest as a team - The Second 100 Years. Amazingly, the two filming locations in this movie are easily recognizable today, 99 years later.
The Kid From Borneo, an Our Gang / The Little Rascals comedy is up next. Famous for the phrase, "Yum, yum eat 'em up!" and a fascinating tour of downtown Culver City, California in 1933.
An Edgar Kennedy short comedy movie from 1945, It's Your Move is next. Edgar and his friend carry a washing machine up a long flight of steps in the hilly Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles.
We wrap up the month with a top-notch Charley Chase comedy movie, Limousine Love, filmed on location also in downtown Culver City. This one gives us some great views of the historic Culver Hotel, just barely 4 years old at the time this movie was filmed in 1928.
I Dream of Jeannie - Battle of Waikiki (1968) - Part 2 of 2
The Plot
Major Nelson, Major Healy and Jeannie are visiting a historic palace in Honolulu. Major Nelson remarks that he wished he could have met the legendary Hawaiian King Kamehameha and Jeannie happily obliges, by blinking the King back to life!
A Historic Palace As Filming Location
The second of two Quick Preview Videos from the classic I Dream of Jeannie TV series episode Battle of Waikiki - focusing in on the scene filmed at the Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Iolani Palace appeared dozens of times in the classic TV series Hawaii Five-O in the 1960s and more recently in the 2009 movie Princess Kaiulani. The palace and surrounding grounds have been beautifully maintained and look just like they did when they were captured on film in these classic TV episodes back in the 1960s.

Laurel and Hardy - The Second 100 Years (1927)
The Plot
Laurel and Hardy are serving time in prison (for what, we don't know but it's probably for a harmless, minor crime). They spot an opportunity to escape by posing as part of a painting crew. Dressed as painters, they make a clean getaway, but a policeman on the beat becomes suspicious and ends up chasing them up and down Main Street in downtown Culver City, California.
Filming Location: The Los Angeles County Morgue!
This Quick Preview Video takes us to two of the filming locations. The first is the "prison" gate where Laurel and Hardy made their escape. This filming location is one of the entrance gates to the Los Angeles County Morgue! Today, the structure of the gate and the morgue building inside the gate look just like they did in 1927.
Filming Location: Bagley Avenue And Venice Blvd In Los Angeles
The other filming location this Quick Preview Video covers is the chase scene, which starts at the corner of Bagley Avenue and Venice Blvd on the west side of Los Angeles. The chase continues south down Bagley Avenue into downtown Culver City at which point the street name changes to Main Street. Besides some minor changes to the building on the corner, the rest of the buildings are still standing and look very much like they did in 1927.
This corner appears in quite a few movies made in the 1920s and 30s, including:
- Our Gang / The Little Rascals - Honky-Donkey (1934)
- Laurel and Hardy - Putting Pants On Philip (1927)
- Max Davidson - Dumb Daddies (1928)

Our Gang / The Little Rascals - The Kid From Borneo (1933)
The Plot
Spanky and Dickie's Uncle George works for a touring carnival and when the carnival arrives in town, Uncle George sends a note to the family inviting them to come over for a visit. Spanky and Dickie bring the rest of the Gang with them to visit Uncle George but they mistake "the wild man from Borneo" for their Uncle George. The wild man has a sweet tooth and when he sees Stymie eating some candy, he chases the Gang through the streets of downtown Culver City, California!
Culver City Filming Locations Then And Now
In this Quick Preview Video, we see "Uncle George" chasing the Gang on Culver Blvd at the corner of Main Street, down an alley next to the landmark Citizen Building at 9355 Culver Blvd and then through a Culver City residential neighborhood on Carson Street, still full of vacant lots in 1933.

Charley Chase - Limousine Love (1928)
The Plot
It's Charley's wedding day and he is driving to the wedding ceremony. On the way, he discovers a half-dressed woman is hiding in the back of his car! The circumstances of course are totally innocent. But this will NOT go over well with his bride-to-be if she discovers the woman and the main focus of the movie is Charley's efforts to get the woman out of his car - with the assistance of Edgar Kennedy and the other male wedding guests.
A Filming Location Time Capsule From 1928
Limousine Love was filmed almost entirely on location in the heart of Culver City, California, 98 years ago. It's not only entertaining, but a very interesting time capsule. This Quick Preview Video shows us a few of the scenes that were filmed outside of the Culver Hotel. The building looks as good today as it did when it first opened in 1924, thanks to its landmark status and the several million dollars of renovation work completed about ten years ago.

Edgar Kennedy - It's Your Move (1945)
The Plot
Two guys carry a bulky washing machine up a long flight of steps.
A Popular Comedy Plot
The premise of carrying a large object up a big flight of steps has been used in comedy films going as far back as the 1920s and this movie continues the tradition.
Laurel and Hardy used this theme twice, first in their 1927 movie Hats Off (a lost film unfortunately) and 5 years later in their Academy Award winning movie The Music Box. The Three Stooges movie An Ache In Every Stake (1941) has the Stooges carrying a big block of ice up a steep flight of steps. The filming location for both of these movies are covered on this website with complete filming location videos and filming location photo galleries.
Filming Location: The Descanso Steps In Los Angeles
In this Edgar Kennedy comedy movie, the film crew headed out to the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles for their filming location. The on location filming took place at the Descanso Steps at 3200 Larissa Drive. This filming location is a quarter of a mile away from the Laurel and Hardy location and about a mile from The Three Stooges filming location.
